Palantir Picks Nebius for Sovereign AI.

Palantir has picked Nebius as its preferred infrastructure partner for “sovereign AI,” putting one of the fastest-growing data-center developers behind one of the most closely controlled enterprise software platforms.
The companies said Palantir will bring Nebius compute and inference endpoints inside its enterprise perimeter after an integration period. Eligible commercial customers would be able to run open models on Nebius infrastructure, adapt them with proprietary data and keep control of the resulting models, data and compute.
It is a software partnership with a concrete-and-power problem underneath it.
Palantir’s pitch is that its AIP, Ontology, Foundry and Apollo products can keep an organization’s information, permissions and artificial intelligence inside a controlled environment (that’s essentially what “Sovereign AI” does.)
Nebius supplies the GPUs, cloud infrastructure and inference capacity required to make that system run. Put together, they are offering customers an alternative to handing sensitive data and model development to a general-purpose cloud and a closed model provider.
The companies are also promising to bring new capacity online faster, including modular data-center deployments at sites where power is already available.
Nebius has spent the past year trying to get ahead of that bottleneck. The company has said it expected to end 2026 with five gigawatts of contracted power and described itself as one of the few operators capable of adding more than a gigawatt of capacity in a year.
It has customers big enough to absorb the supply. Nebius has announced infrastructure agreements worth as much as $19.4 billion with Microsoft and $27 billion with Meta. Nvidia has made a $2 billion investment.
Now Palantir is giving Nebius something different: a channel into commercial organizations that want artificial intelligence without surrendering operational control.
What Palantir gets
Palantir gets a preferred infrastructure supplier built specifically for AI workloads, with the cloud software and hardware intended to operate as one stack. It also gets a way to answer customers that want open models and private data inside a controlled system.
That could make the partnership attractive to regulated industries and companies with sensitive operational data. It also gives Palantir a commercial infrastructure partner outside the three giant U.S. cloud platforms.
What Nebius gets
Nebius gets preferred access to Palantir’s commercial customers and another reason to keep accelerating construction.
That acceleration has already required enormous financing. American Buildout reported last month that Nebius proposed a $4.5 billion convertible-note offering after pricing its most recent prior $4 billion deal in March. The company said the money would fund data centers, GPUs, cloud expansion and other infrastructure.
The financing showed how the AI race works. Customer contracts can run into the tens of billions, but Nebius has to pay for land, equipment, construction and electricity before most of that revenue arrives. Palantir can help fill future capacity. It cannot remove the cost of building it.
The community test
Nebius also inherits a harder question every time it adds another customer: where does the infrastructure go?
It could be placed inside a community that has been protesting its presence and fighting to keep it out.
Independence, Missouri, and Vineland, New Jersey, showed what the buildout looks like from outside the data hall. Residents in Independence are fighting a roughly 493-acre project that a lawsuit says could consume 800 to 1,200 megawatts. In Vineland, opponents have challenged noise, tax breaks and an expansion involving fuel cells and a liquefied-natural-gas tank.
Those disputes sit awkwardly beside the language of sovereignty. Palantir and Nebius are promising customers more control over their data, models and compute. The communities hosting the machines are asking for more control over land, power, taxes, noise and disclosure.
If the integration works, Nebius will move deeper into the enterprise AI stack, beyond selling raw computing capacity. Palantir will gain a preferred pipeline to the infrastructure its commercial customers need. Both will have a stronger answer to businesses wary of closed models and hyperscale clouds.
But the announcement also ties Palantir’s software ambitions to Nebius’s ability to secure power, finance construction, win permits and keep communities from stopping projects before the servers switch on.
The partnership is built around control. The next test is who gets to exercise it.
